A really informative and interesting tasting of 6 well chosen wines, all celebrating what is being achieved with indigenous varieties in lesser known regions by skilled winemakers.
The Riesling from Rheinhessen was voted white of the night. A beautifully crafted dry wine. Lime, grapefruit and green apple, seriously high acidity and with only 3 gms RS per litre, a triumph in seriously dry German Riesling.
The Douro Valley blend (including Touriga Nacional) was packed with vibrant red berry fruit. Balanced acidity and tannin and with a light handed use of oak, this wine was a joy to taste.
Tasting these wines out of Jancis’s beautifully designed wine glasses was a bonus too!

Friends of mine who live near Dittisham and are non wine traders, but big wine lovers attended this and really enjoyed it. Loved the Assyrtikio.
