Members of AWE are invited to register for Wine Australia’s Alternative Varieties Tasting on Wednesday 28 June 2017.
Over the last two decades, there’s been a surge in plantings of alternative varieties. Mediterranean varieties like Fiano and Tempranillo as well as more unusual varieties like Assyrtiko and Saperavi are finding a second home and unique expression in Australia.
This event is Wine Australia’s largest free-pour tasting of 2017, with around 100 wines on show. Varieties include Aglianico, Barbera, Cabernet Franc, Dolcetto, Friulano, Gruner Veltliner, Lagrein, Montepulciano, Nero d’Avola, Roussanne and Sangiovese.
Some highlights…
- Saperavi – made by less than 20 of Australia’s 2800 producers
- Arneis from the cool Southern Highlands
- An aromatic field blend of Riesling, Gewürztraminer and Kerner from Eden Valley
- Taminga from Murray Darling and Teroldego from Adelaide Hills
Sign up to experience the new wave of Australian wine and find out why it’s such an exciting time for the region.
