It’s always fascinating to see which wines AWE members have submitted for ‘100 AWEsome Wines’ and whether I’ve already discovered them and those that I have yet to try.

Perfect inspiration for my latest wine tasting event- ‘AWEsome Wines Uncorked’.

Last week, I uncorked 10 wines for a group in Aberdeen. Some were regular attendees at my tastings, others occasional and some had only ever met before via Zoom at my monthly virtual tastings so there was quite a buzz in the room.

As an aside, I started the virtual tastings in May 2020 as what I thought was a temporary fix, this week I will host my 80th virtual tasting, there is still a taste for them and we are currently working our way through the wine regions of Spain!

Anyway, back to the AWEsome Wines and beginning with a Cremant Bordeaux Blancs De Noirs Brut NV by Louis Vallon-fragrant and fruity, with oat and biscuit and a lingering finish, it received the biggest thumbs up for the night. We need to see more Cremant de Bordeaux on the shelves!

This was also a great opportunity to show wines that might not fit into other themed tastings, cue the Viorica grape from Moldova and Grignolino from Piemonte.

I focused on European wines and from France showed the Domaine Schlumberger Grand Cru Spiegel Pinot Gris, Plaimont Saint Mont Vignes Retrouvees, Vinobles Foncailieu ‘Vallee Des Pins’ Rose, Chateau Corneilla ‘Cavelcade’ Cotes du Roussillon Les Aspres, Chateau D’Aydie Tannat and Chateau Cabidos ‘Cuvee Saint Clement Doux so covered a range of colours and styles.

Best value wine of the night went to Vicente Faria ‘Animus’ a tinto from Portugal and a perfect BBQ partner.

Such a fun event with tasters enjoying the company and the wines so much so they would all like a repeat session focusing on the new world selections!

Thanks to my fellow AWE members for your AWEsome suggestions, I look forward to trying more.
